Who I am

My name is Francisco Martínez Weil and I'm not your usual 24 year old, tea loving guy from Mexico city, Mexico. I am passionate about human centered design, coding and creating new and exciting things.

I love learning how everything works in order to create greater things, not only in my field of work but in every aspect of life. I am not a conformist, I always do my best in every aspect of life, no matter how small or unimportant it seems, but at the same time I'm aware of the importance of time and know how to get the job done.

What I am like

I am very curious, energetic, optimistic and yet realistic. I know how to understand the limits and possibilities and take advantage of the cards I'm dealt to keep learning and creating. I'm a good learner and a great team player because I understand that in order to create the greatest things in life we have to work together.

I am greatly interested on how things work. If it ticks, I want to know how, why and what for.

What I do

I am an Interactive Designer and Web Developer who loves to create really cool things. I like to learn and create experiences that try to connect with the user's emotions.

I have worked as an independent consultant since 2007 with at least a couple of projects per year, until 2010 when I got my Bachelor's degree on Interactive Design and was able to commit myself fully to learn on my own and work full time on different projects. I never stop learning.

Each project taught me to understand client's needs. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions; instead, I work each case uniquely. Because of this most of the skills I've learned and use in a daily basis have been self taught.

I am big into human centered design. I faithfully believe the most important part of design is the end user experience. We can build everything we imagine if we first take our time to understand the needs of each individual project.

Where I do it

I currently work as an independent consultant and as the head coder in the web developing team at MHZ friends, a mexican marketing agency that offers human and digital solutions on marketing for brands like Colgate, ConAgra and Hershey's.

When I am not in MHZ's office I am usually in my own office from home either working on client's projects, my own start up ideas or studying. Yes, studying. At the moment I'm taking an online course with the new MIT remote teaching proposal: MITx: 6.002x Circuits and Electronics. And I will start another online course on Game Theory through Coursera and Stanford University. Both courses are incredibly interesting!

Where I want to be

My goal is to create the most interesting apps and gadgets ever imagined. I am aware of the global growth of technology and I am extremely excited to take part on the construction of new tools!

As a medium term goal, I would like to earn a Masters Degree on Human Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington.

So where I want to be is a tricky question. But not too hard to answer:

"Where I really want to be is wherever I can create."
